Biodiesel refinery Bioro/Cargill at port of Ghent

B.U. Industry was in charge of converting a soja oil production unit into a biodiesel refinery for Bioro/Cargill in the port of Ghent. The intervention particularly consisted of the placing of the entire electrical installation for high and low voltage, the instrumentation, the optical fibre equipment and the Profibus communication network. The teams of B.U. Industry were committed from September 2007 until April 2008, with a peak of nearly 70 men during the last 2 months.

The first site in Belgium who can handle the entire biodiesel production cycle from start to finish

The project in Ghent developed in 2 phases: the transformation of the grinding unit for soybeans into an infrastructure that can process coleseed and the erection of a new refining unit, which gains biodiesel out of the oil of the very same coleseed. This installation, unique in Belgium, will eventually be able to produce 250.000 tons of fuel per year.

The Bioro site in Ghent – a joint venture between Biodiesel Holding, Vanden Avenne Izegem and Cargill – is currently the only complex in the country able to handle the complete biodiesel production in a single location, from the plant material until the refined product, without any transportation in between.
This has been a valuable experience for the teams of B.U. Industry, who have thus conquered a privileged position in a segment that will become increasingly important in the coming years.

Biodiesel fuels will indeed be more increasingly used, and coleseed oil remains the main biodiesel source in Europe.
So the site at Ghent will have to continue its expansion and B.U. Industry would like to be by its side to, in time, accompany its further development.
