Cegelec’s longstanding presence in Belgium’s hospital sector is backed by strong market positions that were established by ABB Building Systems, acquired in 2003. These positions have enabled it to build a solid presence, especially in Wallonia, where it provides services to the great majority of hospitals.
This positioning is underpinned by two key strengths:
- Pioneering expertise in chilled ceiling systems. The UCL University Clinics of Mont-Godinne were the first units in the Walloon region to install the system in their rooms.
- Customer confidence. Cegelec is widely recognised for its ability to find creative solutions and for its experience in carrying out renovations in occupied facilities, which sometimes entails conducting several projects at the same time.
In recognition of these strengths, Cegelec was awarded several major contracts in the past two years:
· The new Charleroi hospital centre (surface of approximately 80,000 sq.m.), which is the largest hospital project in Wallonia. Representing a €17.7 million investment, the complex will comprise 550 beds and 14 operating rooms with chilled and heated ceilings upon its completion in 2012.
· The extension (phase II bis) of Mont-Godinne, which involves the delivery of about 8,000 sq.m. of space in 2011.
· The extension of a wing at RHMS Baudour Hospital, which will house the intensive care, maternity, hospitalization, emergency and other units (about 4,000 sq.m.).

· During the past five years, Cegelec has been working with the Ghent University Hospital in Flanders. One of the region’s largest healthcare establishments, it recently granted Cegelec a €5 million-plus contract for its new K12D wing project.
Cegelec Belgium also teams up with their colleagues from Cegelec North & East in conducting projects in France. Its expertise in chilled ceilings is being leveraged for the renovation of the four towers of Jean Bernard Hospital in Valenciennes.
