It looks like Cegelec Belgium really likes swimming pools and Public-Private Partnerships! Already in 2004, the company was involved in the design, construction and now the operation of the swimming pool in Lier, in the North of the country. But now, again with this type of contract, our teams are at work again on the future pool for the City of Mons – the "Grand Large" swimming pool.
The S&R consortium put together for the project, will cover the design, construction and management aspects of the infrastructure during a twenty-year period. During this time, the City will pay the operator a flat fee of one million Euros a year. The Country’s Regional authorities (the Wallonia Region will put up 7.7 million Euros out of the 19 million Euros that this property programme will cost, while the City provides the remainder).
Cegelec will handle special techniques, namely climate engineering (producing heat, ventilation, cogeneration and technical management) and electricity (high voltage systems, lighting, sound installation, intrusion detection and fire warning systems, telephone and data systems as well as solar panels and three windmills). The latter two installations will ensure optimum use of renewable energy.
Design work will start in September 2008 and construction work in May 2009. Some twenty people will be assigned to the actual work for twelve weeks during the construction phase.
